Upon the changing landscape

Posted On By Rob

Today marks 31 years for one Canberran (me), and sitting here at the breakfast bar in my ancestral home I can safely say this has been one of the best, most idyllic weekends in recent memory.  The past four years have seen a lot of turbulence* on or around February 20th, so this is the first time in that timeframe that I’ve enjoyed what many would describe as a ‘normal’ birthday.

With family and friends around, good food and great wine, this is what I would prefer on a regular basis.  Yet, such is life.  We are destined to venture onwards to other foreign lands.  The spirit is adventurous, but we do harbour intentions of “grounding” ourselves within the next few years.

I received a number of exciting gifts and plenty of goodwill from friends and family – thank you to all – it’s so nice to be remembered, even if we can’t all meet up at the same place and time.

For now, I’m content to celebrate another year and another milestone.  Let the food be plentiful and the quality wine flow freely!

* In 2007 we were in the final days of a huge overseas trip to the USA (and at risk of missing the 20th altogether due to the Intl date  line), in 2008 we were relocating from Sydney to Brisbane and in 2009 relocating from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.  In 2010 we are “in transit” with no fixed address!
