Thoughts from the road

Well here we are travelling down the highway of life.. and also as it turns out, the Federal highway, slowly approaching the Australian Capital Territory (a.k.a Canberra).  This is actually my home town, and my immediate family all live in the ACT.  We are planning a few weeks here (and down at the South Coast) before we depart next month.

We have not spent much time in Canberra over the past few years, so it will be interesting to see how much has changed – and how much has not changed!  We’ve spent the past few days transiting down from the Gold Coast via Port Macquarie and Newcastle.  Today we swept through Sydney (very briefly) via the western suburbs.  It was great to see family and friends on our journey and we’re likely to see even more people before next month.

Partly we were unable to visit the city centre of Sydney as our car is fully loaded – anything not in long term storage is packed into the back of Toni’s Fairmont, and we couldn’t risk parking it in the middle of Sydney.  Our next destination offers us the potential for emptying the car and repacking with better strategy.

It has been a rough couple of days, with a lot of driving.  My car is now housed in Newcastle for the immediate future, and will stay there for the foreseeable future.  Totalled up, both Toni and I have driven 24 hours in the past three days, and we are in the middle of a three hour journey from Campbelltown to Belconnen (ACT).  At the moment we are  crossing the Nepean River, which is very close to running dry.  It is raining, but not heavily.  Stay tuned for more soon!
