We took off for Far North Queensland, after being dropped at the airport this morning by my obliging father battling an unseasonably cold and miserable start to Autumn.
Upon arrival at the airport we discovered we had to endure a 1 hour delay, which would put us in to our stop over destination (Sydney) a little past 10:30am. We soldiered on, with several delays causing Jake to get tired and grumpy by landing.
Arriving in Sydney, we jumped into a Maxi-Taxi and visited Paul in Marrickville. He took us to lunch at this nice cafe where we had a really nice lunch. Around 1pm we went back to his place and it was not long (minutes) before our next Taxi came to return us to Sydney Domestic.
The wait was substantially shorter this time, and after a relaxing $2 massage chair session each, we were both boarding with little Jake. His second plane trip was far less eventful, and he slept the majority of the flight (about 1.5 hours at least).
Before long, we were touching down at Cairns airport. The flight was largely uneventful with only a little bit of turbulence. Jake is still adjusting to landings, but did far better the second time around. What a trooper.
The most immediate and striking thing about the region is the landscape, very reminiscent of Hawai’i. This was Toni’s first time in FNQ, however not my first time. Entering the terminal, we collected bags and worked out details with the car hire company.
For the next seven days we’re touring in a Volkswagen Passat, which has proven to be a pretty reliable vehicle thus far.
We checked into the Ramada at Port Douglas around 7-7:30pm, and are in a ground floor two bedroom apartment facing the bar & grill. Not the best view, but can’t argue with the proximity to free WiFi..
Check back for more from Far North Queensland tomorrow………
