Today has been a pretty good day. When the day started, both baby Jake and mum Toni were in hospital, status uncertain. Toni was doing alright by all accounts, but Jake was listed as critical, with a broken clavicle and also following two seizures about five hours after his birth.
I returned to work so that I can take more leave when both baby and mum make the trip home. It was very hard to concentrate on work issues with so many questions in the air. However, there was not much I could do; and I will be infinitely more useful once both are out of hospital.
J.B. had an MRI and several blood tests today and from what I understand, the results were positive – although it is taking a toll on him. To keep him still for the scan, he was dosed with sedatives that left him quite groggy afterwards. His vitals have been good though, and no abnormalities have been detected in his brain scans.
The good news is that this evening, his status was downgraded from critical; and he is doing well. We’ll find out more tomorrow when the “official” report is compiled from the neurologist at Canberra hospital. The staff of the ICU have been really top notch. Tomorrow, there’s a good chance he and Toni might be transferred back to Calvary in Bruce (closer to home!).
It’s not all brilliant news though; Toni has now gone over 30 hours without a visit from a doctor. If she isn’t checked out tomorrow morning, I’ll be raising hell at Canberra Hospital.
