Today marked the 2012 Google Photo Walk across the nation. Rumoured to be one of the largest to date, many hundreds are expected to have participated in various cities across the continent.
The Canberra Photo Walk started at 7am this morning, as we all met at Regatta Point, not far from the Captain Cook Memorial Fountain (which was disappointingly off at the time). We were greeted with a beautiful sunrise, serene colours and a majesty I haven’t seen in a long time.
One of my colleagues, Donna, also turned up and participated in the event. We chatted about Canberra and the many interesting highlights as well as meeting fellow Google+ users and chatting with them.
The breathtaking sunrise soon gave way to a brilliantly clear and crisp morning, highlighted with magical blue skies with wispy clouds and punctuated by hot air balloons, accentuated by the architecturally designed Canberra parliamentary zone skyline.
As a group we headed off around the foreshore and towards the bike hire shack. The hot air balloons caught up with us crossing further south near the museum of Australia, and this gave us ample opportunity to get some more tasteful snaps.
Afterwards, the group headed into city – alarmingly right towards where Donna and I work. The modern building designs were a fresh look at a Canberra city all too familiar, but in great contrast to the concrete high rises of the 80s.
Not long afterwards, Donna and I headed back to Regatta and bit farewell. Now, I have the rest of the day to prepare for the Brumbies v. Sharks game tonight at Canberra Stadium! Enjoy.. R
