Back in February, 2007, Toni and I went on a big trip to Hawaii, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. To welcome in the new year, here is a travel flashback(tm) a retrospective look at our trip to the Colorado river and an American Indian reserve as part of a day tour from Las Vegas.
Our trip took us to a regional airport (Carson City) where we were originally intended on travel on a different tour. A snow front had swept in and closed the area we were due to land in. We were able to switch to a different tour at the airport, and this enabled us to fly to (and land) at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Upon landing, we were put into a helicopter which flew down into the Grand Canyon, landing us on the bottom. Here we boarded a boat and sailed down the river.
After the cruise, we re-boarded another helicopter which returned us to the top. Boarding a bus, we were driven to an American Indian reserve for lunch and further exploration. We ate lunch on a park setting literally adjacent to the rim of the canyon. The photos are worth a thousand words. The Canyon is massive, and goes on for miles and miles. Over a long period of time, the river has chipped away at the rock, creating the massive canyon we see today. The view is most impressive from the rim, but equally as impressive (for the purpose of scale and perspective) from the river itself.
Following lunch, and exploration, we were rushed back onto the bus – the snowstorm which had interfered with our original tour was coming in at a great speed, and threatened to hit the reserve before we we scheduled to leave. Being urgently ushered onto the twin prop plane, we had one last look back before being whisked back to Carson City, and then back to Las Vegas.
Our last look at the impending inbound snow storm.
