Days 9 & 10: Giza and Alexandria (Summary)

Hi Guys,

We’ve just re-boarded the ship, about thirty minutes ago, and all is well.  We’ve done so much in the past 48 hours that I’ll need a lot more time to collate my thoughts and review the 400+ photos I took (plus Toni’s photos).  In the meantime, here’s a summary view of what we have done since docking in the Egyptian port of Alexandria:

Day 1

  • Mini Bus to the Giza Plateau
  • Saw/Stood on the Great Pyramid (Khufu’s)
  • Entered the ante room of a royal burial room
  • Climbed inside one of the Queen’s tomb (Pyramid)
  • Saw Khufu’s 4,000+ year old Solar Boat in the climate controlled museum
  • Photos taken from a vantage point near the Pyramids
  • Entered a temple opposite the Sphinx
  • Photos with the Sphinx & Pyramids
  • Mini Bus into Cairo; lunch on an island in the middle of the Nile
  • Took River craft to the near the Cairo museum
  • Visited the Cairo museum – highlights: Tutenkarmen’s mask, sarcophagus and other relics
  • Mini Bus back to Giza Plateau and saw the Sound and Lights show
  • Dinner at our five star hotel (Indian restaurant)
  • Pyramid view room

Day 2

  • Mini Bus back to Alexandria
  • Catacombs tour
  • Mini Bus to (new) Library of Alexandria
  • Tour of Library
  • Sadat Exhibition
  • Multimedia Presentation
  • Extended Tour of Museum
  • Mini Bus to the Castle where the Pharos Lighthouse used to stand
  • Mini Bus to the largest Mosque in Alexandria
  • Mini Bus to papyrus/shopping district
  • Mini Bus to Harbour (Last minute shopping)
  • Re-board Brilliance
