Day 1: Barcelona, Spain

Posted On By Rob

We really love Spain, last year we thoroughly enjoyed our visits, and it seems like we’re set for another excellent tour here this year.  After such a worrisome start to our holiday, things are really looking up.  Bless Spain Smile

Our room was ready ahead of schedule, so we were able to check in at around 10:30am.  We promptly left our luggage and caught the subway to Vallcarca and walked on foot to Park Guell, made famous by one Antonio Gaudi.  This trip took us up the side of a rather tall hill, giving spectacular views to the sea.

We explored most of the park, taking a few pictures here and there.  We opted not to go into the Gaudi museum because the admission price was 5.50 Euro Dollars, and the museum didn’t look terribly large.  The park was amazing, and built upon b many of the designs one can see present in the Segrada Familia (a church in Barcelona designed by Gaudi).

Afterwards, we headed downhill and ate lunch at a Spanish café.  We promptly got lost for a while, before eventually ending up at the aforementioned Segrada Familia (which we visited last August).  The church at sunset is a real treat and the weather today was spectacular.  Spain has really put on some impressive blue skies and sun.

We scouted the perimeter of the church before catching the subway to the Arch of Triumph.  We passed under the arch and walked down to a large park with a huge waterfall feature.  By now it started to get close to sunset, so we made for the hotel off La Rambla.  All in all a good day – we have dinner with fellow cruise guests tonight at 8:30pm so the day isn’t quite finished.
