A weekend’s notes

Posted On By Rob

Hi all,

Well, as you may know from reading the various entries, last week was incredibly cold here – so much so that it snowed on two consecutive days which dropped temperatures below zero (degrees) on those days – *phew*.  As a consequence, Toni and I (and pretty much everyone else) all came down with colds.

Unsurprisingly, we opted to stay indoors (and, indeed, in bed) for most of the weekend, only venturing out on Saturday and Sunday nights for dinner.  We’re still without gas, so we can’t cook meals (yet) and that is becoming a bit of a pain and it’s not as much fun as it sounds to eat out every night.

We went to the Century Mart last night – it’s sort of a cross between a Myer, a Target and a Coles.  A bit more upmarket than the Carrefours or the Wu Mart (specifically in terms of pricing) but they also had a far more superior range of goods.  We bought a few odds and ends before sitting down to a meal of Japanese at the local Ajisen Ramen which is a chain of fast food restaurants.

At the moment I’m here in the office/apartment by myself (hence writing this entry) but otherwise, we’ve been busy getting things sorted out or recovering from our colds.  Thankfully we packed for all four seasons, so we have plenty of warm clothes.  We also have a decent bedroom set up now, so we’re on track.

Anyhow, there’s lots more to do around here (in HangZhou) we’re eagerly looking forward to exploring further..  Toni is (probably) going to be starting Uni soon and I should be also enrolling next month if all goes to plan.  Learning Mandarin will likely have a measurable impact on our happiness in China – just a hunch 🙂

  1. Hello. This is kind of an "unconventional" question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time Thanks for any help you can offer here

  2. G’Day – I’m using a templated blog engine called "BlogEngine.NET" (there’s a link at the bottom of the page) which uses ASP.net (on an IIS server) as the host platform.

The client side stuff (UI/markup) is marked up with Cascading Style Sheets, CSS (this is used to apply various "styles" to the site templates). If you have any specific questions, fire me an email at rob.sanders@gmail.com, I’ll see if I can help you out!
