Well folks, it’s been over three weeks since we arrived (back) in HangZhou. It has been a feature packed three weeks, full of interesting (and some very uninterestng) events. This is a quick update from the week that was..
On Wednesday night Matt and I played Texas Hold’em poker with a few people out at one of the Zhejiang university campuses. Matt took the pot at the end of the night, and it was good to slowly develop more of a social network. That same night, the three of us ate at the Pizza Hut up on Wenyi lu, I must write a bit more about the local Pizza Hut, it’s nothing like back home – far more up market. The pizza is also great there.
On Thursday night, Matt, Toni and Hary (a friend from Sydney also living in HZ) all hit the Reggae Bar which is close to our apartment complex for some beers, food and (free) pool.
Last night (Friday) Matt and I hit a few bars around HZ including the You Too and Maya bars down on Shuguang Lu. We had some (excellent) goat kebabs outside the Reggae Bar, some Yongche King and finally some gyoza (dumplings) from the vendors down near Maya.
Today (Saturday) Toni and I ventured out to North HangZhou on a mission to locate a number of large department stores. Our trip was for the most part in vain, as our directions were more or less wrong, but you have to give us credit for giving it a go! We had a dinner guest (Chen) and I cooked up some nice pasta with a Bolognese sauce with fresh mince, vegetables and Fuseli pasta.
Hopefully the weather on Sunday will be clear enough to make a hike up the nearest mountain (with camera) worth the effort.
