A really clear night in HangZhou

Posted On By Rob

Hi Everyone,

Tonight in HZ we had a really spectacular mini-typhoon which ripped through the district around 6:30pm and finished up at about 8pm.
As a consequence of the copious amounts of rain, the skyline afterwards was crystal clear – strikingly so.

Having my camera handy, I snapped some high resolution (12 megapixel) shots from the balcony at about 8:30pm at night.
The photos seem very light, but this is due to the decreased shutter speed, it was taken at night.

Using an octopus tripod tethered to the balcony I was able to shoot at an amazing ISO-100, the results can be seen below.

The first image is a cut down shot of the initial photo (resized to 800×600).  The second is a crop from the original at the full resolution.

On a good day you can see most of the stadium, but tonight as you can see, the detail is very clear.
Even off to the mountains, it was spectacular!

Later, I went back out (after midnight) and shot with my 50-200mm lens still at ISO 100.  The first photo (reduced to 800×600) is at 50mm f2.8 and gives you some idea what we’re looking at.  The second shot is snipped from a second photo shot at 200mm f/3.5 and at full resolution.  Shows you just how clear it has been this evening!
