As I am writing this, we are heading towards the island state of Malta, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Yesterday we were at sea and while I am busy writing up entries for Giza and Alexandria, we took some time out to sleep in, eat and relax.
We ate breakfast in Windjammer, then did some general housekeeping in the stateroom before meeting up with P & C later at 12 at the atrium bar. From here we went to the International Food Day festivities, eventually settling on German Sausages and mustard in the Solarium Café on Deck 11. After a long lunch we went to deck 5 and reviewed photos and later regrouped at the casino.
After the casino we hit the on board gym with PC or an hour of workouts, then retired to the stateroom to dress for the nights’ formal night dress. We went down to the casino to meet PC and then went to the show in the main theatre. The show that night was ‘Center Stage’ – a tribute to live music. The performers covered tributes to Queen, Elton John, (the music of) John Williams, the Beatles and many more. It was quite a production with some excellent work by the vocalists and the orchestra in particular.
Next we had some photos taken at which point we met a nice Australian couple from Adelaide who knew P & C from their shore excursion in Cairo. After photos and talking we hit the main dining room where we continued general discussions and debriefing about our Cairo and Egypt experiences (we’d been in Chopps Grille the previous night). Our dinner mates only had 15 minutes at the Pyramids on their tour – outrageous! We felt lucky that we had switched to the private tour.
Later in the night three chefs came out to get feedback on our meals – a first – the main dining crew are doing such a fantastic job of ensuring us the best dining experience on board. Everything was quite good, we even had extra (huge) prawns with our main.
After dinner, the main atrium was converted into a large 70s disco with tunes blasted throughout the ship and a dance floor created right in front of the bar and Christmas tree. We went and changed out of our formal gear and met P & C down near the action on Deck 4. After a while we migrated to the Starquest lounge on deck 12 where the disco had moved to (past midnight).
Not long after we returned to the casino where I sat in a friendly Texas Hold’Em for a while, doing O.K. We would up the night at around 1am (but really 2am due to winding our clocks back one hour).
We’re due in Malta in about one hour.. Stay tuned for more
