Day 5 – Dinner Plain

Posted On By Rob

The day got off to a late start even though most surfaced at around 8am.  We had a lazy breakfast and allowed ourselves to warm up whilst Austin decided to have a long lay in until well after 10am.

It wasn’t until almost 11am before we got underway on a local trail run down to Carmichael Falls.  It is about a 2km-ish trek down a fairly steep hill, made even more difficult with small stones and slippery grass.

After we got back to the chalet, we made time for lunch and a break, before hitting the car for a ride 20-odd minutes towards Omeo where we took a well maintained but intense dirt path to the Victoria Falls lookout.  Much less walking, but quite some distance from the falls themselves.  The return drive provided ample time for some great photos of the serene countryside.

We intentionally blew past Dinner Plain and ended up at Mother Johnson’s picnic area.  I left the family and trekked/ran 3.5 kms back to Dinner Plain via JB Plain.  It was a nice journey punctuated by Emu sightings, snow and lots of sticks.

I went back to the chalet and picked up Damian, we walked up to the Wyndham reception and borrowed a basketball.  We hit the court but instead wound up playing cricket with some other holiday makers. At 5pm we returned the ball and headed back for dinner.
