Our second day began with a reasonably early start. The kids had met some other kids and they were happy to play handball and hire trikes to fly around the place. We trekked out near midday to check out the Sunday markets on the foreshore, absorbing the mid-20s temperature and blue skies which began to hasten away and be replaced by grim cloud cover and strong wind.
We had lunch at Sea Shanty, a popular local seafood restaurant on Myer street who kindly accommodated us at 1pm through to close (2pm). I had the seafood gumbo special which was really good, and everyone else reported their meals exceeded expectations.
We retired to the Big 4 after grabbing food and snacks for dinner. We made the big call to use the facility’s pools instead of the indoor pool further up the road (which we could get free admission to). Austin, Damian, Jake and I all took to the cold waters with some trepidation. There was a small wading pool (cold) and unheated pool (which Jake was pushed into) and a large “heated” pool, which ended up being “endurable”. Whilst Matthew and Toni watched, I chased Austin between two of the pools and dealt with having to go all in to the two least cold pools themselves.
That out of the way, we eventually found our way back to the villa to prepare for the evening.
The NRL Grand Final was the big ticket item, so we used the facilities to BBQ some sausages and steak, whilst Toni braved igniting the gas-based stove to try and bake some chips. I set up the little projector I’d bought a week ago at Aldi so that the Grand Final was viewed in epic proportions, pared to a brand new high definition soundbar.
Brisbane eventually won the tight contest much to Broncos fan Matthew’s delight, and we eventually called it a night after getting all our stuff in order for the next leg of the trip the following day.
